Hang when scrolling clips in Media Browser (Mac OS)

After updating Premiere Pro CC 2018 to version 12.0.0 on my iMac 2017 (40GB Ram) I am experiencing a problem with the Media Browser. Scrolling through Media Browser Thumbnails will randomly put Premiere into endless spinning wheel hang and from there I can only force quit. It happens very every few minutes of editing, but never ever happened before this version of Premiere no matter how large the project. The project it occured with has about 150 short clips. The footage is h.264 in UHD 4k straight from my Sony Alpha 7SII

It does'nt matter if I use a fast external SSD with the footage on it or standard drive. No difference whatsoever. Today I had an Adobe support agent reset all permissions etc via remote online session. For a short moment the problem seemed to have disappeared, but it started happening again shortly after. He told me that the CPU usage was peaking when scrolling through the thumbnail files. It makes no difference if I use OPEN CL or METAL, the problem occurs on both. I assume this is another kind of memory leak bug. Ive filed a bug report

Editing in a PC Environment with MacDrive and Mac Formatted External Drives

Hello,

Engaged in some research on workflow for a project, curious to know if anyone participating in this forum has experience editing content on a PC with Mac formatted external drives, using MacDrive in order to read and write with the Mac formatted drives.

Is it possible?  If so, does it make the process more cumbersome?

Any thoughts / feedback, super appreciated.

Thanks,

Adobe Premiere 2018 randomly quitting

$

Hello,

I've been running Adobe Premiere CC on this mac since CC was first released and last year I started experiencing random crashes. I have since installed new ram, new video card, new HDD and wiped the HDD clean and done a re-install of Premiere CC 2018. The Mac is a 2009 Mac Pro running Sierra 12.6

If anyone has any idea why it would still randomly quit after I've changed everything I can think of then please offer some advice, cheers.

Here is the crash log:

Adjusting Titles for Mobile Video

Hi,

I have Motion Graphics and Premiere titles from Motion Array and others that work fine on a standard size video.

But when I export the file as a square video- 1020 x 1020- the title is too big and the text doesn't fit the screen.

Despite searching on Adobe, Youtube etc, I can't find a tutorial; on how I do this?

Any suggestions?

Linking issue Former team project (media cache files not relinking)

$

My team and i recently began a team project - but then I had to go on the road so cloned the drive while one editor continued editing so that I could also work (in the jungle away from internet).

When I returned (and before went on the road again) I converted the project to a regular project. (not team)

This morning in a rush to deliver the project I saved the project to the shared NAS storage at my office. I also redirected the Media cache and Media files cache to the NAS.

This afternoon I started getting 'Error while writing to drive' warnings. And then 'Disc Error while writing to file' and then 'Error while trying to access drive'

So I closed down and reopened. And now all my media is offline. When I highlight the clips and attempt to relink the clips, the usual like-for-like (can't find x, relink to X) that usually results in Premiere automatically relinking ALL the files DOES NOT WORK - because it's trying to link the file (with a regular name) to what i can only imagine are Media Cache files with huge extensions (which do wayyyy down the pathway use the same file name) - OR SOME new type of file created in the cloud when this project was still a TEAM project (?). Believing these files to be cache files  I tried to direct the RELINK media tool towards the Media Cache folder on my NAS shared folder the folder appears empty or at least it won't let me see what is inside the folder to attempt relinking.

The work around is highlighting my entire sequence of mostly red offline clips and manually redirecting every single file to the appropriate original camera master, or pulled footage bins (rather than the cached files with the really long names).

After 6 hours of doing this, I can't help thinking that somewhere on my computer are the files it's looking for - but because they are media cache files OR the product of something created while this project was still a team project. But I cannot see the files and I cannot find them using the RELINK MEDIA tool anyway (even if I could find them inside a regular Finder window).

Any help?

Also - I am now extremely worried about shutting down the project in case it loses these links again. Should I consolidate the project to somewhere entirely new and clean to try to protect against some corruption that may have happened as a result of turning this project from a TEAM project to a regular project.

Any help?

Change time display - only frames option

Dear all,

First time I ask a question here, but I'm really stuck. I want to change my timecode display format from frames to seconds. I found numerous tutorials, however they don't work for me. If I take a look at my sequence settings, the only option I can choose is ' frames'  and all the other options seem to have disappeared. I added a screenshot. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Thanks! Regards, Inge

macOS: Surround Monitoring, USB Hardware Solutions?

Using Premiere (and Audition) CC 2018 on macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 (Mac Pro 5,1 and MacBook Pro).  Curious what current hardware solutions people are using to monitor and mix surround and multi-channel audio?  Looking for USB 2 or USB 3 solutions (not Thunderbolt) that would allow mapping to each speaker for 5.1 or 7.1 setups.  Searching through forums and only finding old posts referencing fairly outdated and unavailable hardware.  Unfortunately, HDMI embedded audio out solutions will not work and would like to avoid Toslink S/PDIF through a receiver.

Adobe Premiere Pro Fehlermeldung beim Start Windows

Guten Tag,

Kurz gesagt habe ich alles versucht, was in dem Link steht: Error "Premiere Pro could not find any capable video play modules" | Startup - ohne Erfolg.

Was villeicht noch wichtig ist: Andere Programme wie Photoshop, Illustrator und InDesign funktionieren ohne Probleme und öffen sich auch nach wenigen Sekunden.

Prozessor: i74790k

Grafikkarte; MSI GTX 980

Ram: 16 GB DDR3

Vielen Dank im Vorraus.

Premiere CC2017 is after up- and downgrade extremely slowly - No more work possible

Hello,

yesterday I had unfortunately the very bad Idea to update during a current project from Premiere CC2017 to CC2018. With the 2018 version I had a whole bunch of errors and it after hours of loading the project it totally crashed. Then I immediately installed again the old version and was able to load the project again.

But: Now it runs so slowly (It needs 20 seconds each time when you want to press the "play"-button for playing a video in the timeline). It is impossible to work any more...

Does anyone know help?

Thanks a lot!

Replacing Mobo and Processor - lots of questions!

So after six years, either my processor or a memory slot on my mobo is failing.  I know a LOT has changed in 6 years, and I am way out of shape but trying to get up to speed fast and am feeling a little overwhelmed, hoping to get some good advice here, much as I did way back when from Harm, Eric, Bill and others.

My needs right now are to cut 4k a7sii and 4k drone footage with LUT's and Lumetri effects. PPro is my main focus, occasional light AE and PS work, but nothing special.

After pulling the mobo and processor (Asus p9x79Pro and i3930 overclocked) here's what I own and have to work with:

Antec V3 1200 full tower

Corsair HX 1050 gold power supply

Asus GeForce  GTX 1060 6gb (about a year old)

Asus BD burner

Coolermaster 212 Evo

Sata and firewire cards (for legacy material)

For my HD's, I have mostly WD black's (one Hitachi is in there somewhere) for OS, Projects, Exports, Backup, Media Cache, and 2 WD 64gb 1TB's in a RAID 0 for my media.

I am thinking about:

GIGABYTE x299 AORUS GAMING7 X299 6BG/S MOBO

iNTEL CORE I7 7820x sKYLAKE X 8 CORE 3.6 lga 2066

4  Sticks of:

Crucial 8GB DDR4-2400 UDIMM

CT10549950

  • DDR4 PC4-19200 • CL=17 • Single Ranked • x8 based • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR4-2400 • 1.2V • 1024Meg x 64 •

SAMSUNG 960 EVO M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V6E1T0BW - to replace Raid O for media

Do I need an additional ssd for media cache files?

Question - can I keep my super stable install of windows 7, or do I need to go to 10?

This is a pretty pricey re-build, so I am hoping that everything is compatible and good for CC2018, and is reasonably future proof.  Opinions on the bundle and gotchas I may be missing are MUCH appreciated.

Thanks

macOS: Surround Monitoring, USB Hardware Solutions?

After Effects must be installed...

I'm now experiencing the "After Effects must be installed to import this file." issue. I first noticed it in a new project where I had created a Motion Graphics Template in AE and added it to the Essential Graphics Panel. When trying to use the template in Premiere, it couldn't recognize that AE was installed. Tried moving the cache away from the root of the drive, as was suggested earlier, but no luck. Now I've opened a project from 2 weeks ago, and the linked AE comps in it are offline. Even trying to replace a simple clip with "Replace with AE comp ... " fails, getting the above message.

This is a freshly built system that has not had earlier versions of CC installed. Both versions are the latest.

Here's what I've tried -

- Moved the cache from the root

- Signed out of and quit CC, then rebooted and signed back in.

- Uninstalled both PPro and AE, cleaned then reinstalled.

How to assess SSDs vs Raid 5 for read speeds.

Hey there, not an expert so would just like some 'real world advice' if that's ok... re setting up kit.

I was going to set up a RAID 5 on an older machine, replicating what I have at work.

4 sata 1TB on raid 5 -old machine, giving solid read speeds of about 230mbs.

Blackmagic disk speed test software.

So then I hopped on to amazon and saw...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-inch-Solid-State-Drive/dp/B00P738MUU/ref=sr_1_1?s=compute rs&ie=UTF8&qid=1515167087&sr=1-1&keywords=850%2Bevo%2B250&th=1

Single SSD giving read speeds of 540mbs

So in the real world is the 540mbs halved ?

It would cost me the same to buy the cheap HDs as the SSD, if it can perform the same...

Just for DATA, this drive, OS on another SSD and backup, cache etc on a usb drive.

Thanks

Help! Export gives me audio but stays on the first image in the sequence.

I've got an audio track over which I have PNG images from a slide show.  When I play in the viewer in Premier Pro, the images change as they should as the video plays, but when I export, the image stays on the first image in the sequence for the duration of the export.  I'm a relatively new user, so some help would be great!
